Manor Build: Top Home Design Choices of 2024

As we reflect on 2024, we’ve noticed a clear pattern in the design features chosen by our Manor Build clients. From sleek exterior styles to carefully curated interior finishes, these popular selections combine both function and flair—perfect for the modern homeowner. Here’s a closer look at what’s been trending this year.

1. The Okato: Most Popular House Plan

Okato

The Okato house plan takes the top spot for 2024. Despite its compact footprint, it flawlessly balances convenience and comfort with three well-sized bedrooms, two modern bathrooms, and a handy scullery—ideal for those seeking efficient storage solutions. The addition of a separate laundry enhances everyday practicality, making household tasks a breeze.

One of the defining features of the Okato is its flexible roof options. Clients have particularly loved choosing between the mono pitch or the modern gable roof style (more on roof styles below!). The decision is about more than just aesthetics—each roof style brings a unique architectural presence, allowing homeowners to infuse a personal touch into their brand-new abode.

2. Modern Gable Roof: A Clear Favourite for roof style

While the Okato accommodates the mono pitch design, there’s no denying that the modern gable roof has been this year’s biggest hit overall. This contemporary twist on the classic silhouette adds extra character to a home’s facade and works harmoniously with a variety of exterior finishes. It’s a testament to how combining simplicity with clean lines can result in striking curb appeal.

3. BGC Stratum: Most Selected Cladding Option

When it comes to exterior cladding, our clients overwhelmingly opted for BGC Stratum. This fibre cement plank can be configured either horizontally or vertically, has a bold 16mm grooved surface that can be at 300mm, 150mm or 100mm spacings, or even a mixture of all options. The smooth surface can be painted any colour including dark hues, and the long plank means that pretty much anything can be done without visible joins. Its clean lines and durability have proven perfect for New Zealand’s changing climate, ensuring both style and resilience for years to come.

4. Mid Century Modern Finishes

Our trending finishes and colour palettes this year have drawn inspiration from Mid Century Modern design—a theme showcased in our popular show home. Whether it’s interior flooring, cabinetry, or bench tops, clients have been drawn to the timeless yet contemporary feel of this retro-influenced style.

A standout choice for interior walls has been Dulux Mount Aspiring, often described as a ‘black’ white. It lends both a crisp contemporary vibe and a timeless essence to living spaces, allowing furnishings and decorative pieces to really pop. Pairing these understated walls with statement flooring—think warm timber planks or plush carpeting—creates a cohesive, inviting interior.

Exterior colours have continued the dark theme, with Dulux Taihape for cladding and Ironsand for roofing and Joinery.
