Home Building Trends for 2017

There is no shortage of options and opinions when it comes to decorating your house but ultimately it needs to be a space that you enjoy. Most of us don’t want to redecorate every year therefore it’s important to keep in mind some timeless colours and finishes that won’t go out of style.
Whether you borrow some ideas from the trends but keep it traditional, or go for all the most current ideas, here is what is happening this year in home design trends.
According to this Viva article, here’s what a few of the experts they interviewed said:
- Cedar remains popular as an external finish
- Brushed stainless hardware on furnishings and lighting is in fashion
- Geometric shapes are making an appearance from furniture to archways
Over at NZ Interior Designer, here are their 2017 style trends:
- Beds are becoming more of a feature with lavish headboards
- Terracotta tiles are replacing white tiles
- Golden hues and copper tones throughout finishes
As far as colours go, check out this NZ Herald article which highlights the colour of 2017: Greenery. They note that green is a calming colour and reminds us of nature so it’s a great choice for using in your homes, where you come to relax and rejuvenate. You may find it’s too bold to use all over but it may work well as a feature wall or for some pops of colour like throw pillows or a table lamp.
