The Taranaki region faced a pressing need for more warm, dry, and safe housing due to a growing list on the housing register. The challenge was to quickly provide affordable social housing that met the high standards of Kainga Ora's Fully Universal Design and Landscape design guides.
Client Goals and Project Vision
In a joint venture with a developer, Manor Build undertook a turnkey project to deliver four homes within six months. The project involved:
- Design and construction of three 3-bedroom homes and one 4-bedroom home.
- Each home featured a classic gable roof design and feature cladding to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal.
- Interiors were meticulously planned to comply with Fully Universal Design requirements, which include spacious layouts to accommodate wheelchairs, larger internal doors, and other accessibility features.
- Comprehensive site planning included considerations for privacy, safety, effective traffic management, landscaping, and CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) principles.
Outcomes
Manor Build successfully managed the design, construction, and site works, delivering a fully finished project that perfectly met the client's stringent requirements for affordable social housing. The homes not only provided a warm and safe environment but also addressed critical social needs with their thoughtful, inclusive design.
